1) "Why do YOU need a VPN?"
For myself, I would like to stay connected with friends and family back at home; I would like access to websites such as Facebook, Blogspot, and Google (gmail), which are all blocked in China. Youtube is also blocked, and all my music-teacher friends know how vital it is to have access to Youtube as a teaching tool! As a 21st century educator, I believe that the internet is a powerful tool to be utilized in learning.2) "...Is it illegal?"
Nope! Hear more about it from this handsome expatriate gentleman:
3) "I'm going to China, and I want my netflix, youtube, and gmail! How do I sign up?"
Get one BEFORE heading to China, as the VPN home-pages are blocked there. Here's a list that I've collected from my searches - unless the Chinese government gets to them, these should all work.
- TunnelBear:
- (step 1) Download the app to your i-devices and laptop; (step 2) Switch it on within the app; (step 3) Enjoy browsing!
- 500 MB free per month, or pay for unlimited access.
- Express VPN:
- Similar to TunnelBear, but seems more heavy duty from my general observation (TunnelBear currently has 13 other countries' servers to choose from; Express has 78!)
- Costs twice as much per month (compared to TunnelBear)
- GoAgent:
- Not quite a VPN, but it allows you to "gain access to blocked information" (wikipedia)
This list, put together by people who actually know what they're talking about, also looks promising - go and take a look!Hope this is helpful! Now go and browse to your heart's content!
